Petroleum imports worth nearly Rs 3 billion through Kakarbhitta in two months

JHAPA: In the first two months of the current fiscal year, petroleum products worth Rs 2.84 billion were imported through the Kakarbhitta checkpoint. The imports included petrol, diesel, liquefied petroleum (LP) gas, aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene.

According to Ishwar Kumar Humagain, Information Officer and Customs Officer at the Mechi Customs Office, the value of petroleum imports declined by Rs 106.13 million—or 3.6 percent—compared to the same period last fiscal year. Despite the decrease in import volume, revenue from petroleum imports rose by 0.5 percent, an increase of Rs 6.43 million.

Statistics from the customs office show that petroleum imports generated Rs 1.39 billion in revenue during the months of August and September. Within this period, 16,352 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 1.427 billion were imported, while diesel imports stood at 9,040 kiloliters, valued at Rs 844.2 million.

In addition, 4,233 metric tons of LP gas worth Rs 404.9 million were imported, along with 1,488 kiloliters of ATF valued at Rs 132.2 million, and 248 kiloliters of kerosene worth Rs 22.2 million.
