Arson at NC leader’s home in Birgunj kills househelp

KATHMANDU: A 45-year-old woman injured during an arson attack on the home of Nepali Congress central member Anil Rungta has died while undergoing treatment.

Socialadevi Hazara passed away on Tuesday at Kirtipur Burn Hospital in Kathmandu.

Hazara, a househelp from Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality-2 in Parsa, was employed at Rungta’s residence in Birgunj.

She was severely burned when her employer’s house was set on fire during the Gen-Z protests on September 9, in which anarchic groups reportedly entered homes to loot and vandalize.

The fire affected four buildings in Rungta’s residence in Birgunj Metropolitan City-13. Hazara had been on the roof at the time of the attack. Another young man on the roof was also seriously burned but was rescued with the help of the Birgunj fire brigade’s ladders.
