Four new ministers sworn in

Four newly appointed ministers took the oath of office on Monday afternoon, following cabinet nominations made by Prime Minister Sushila Karki. Former Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha has been appointed Minister for Industry and Law; innovator Mahabir Pun will head the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology; Madan Pariyar takes over as Minister for Agriculture; and journalist Jagdish Kharel will lead the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Speaker Ghimire attends oath ceremony of four newly appointed ministers

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, attended the swearing-in ceremony of four newly appointed ministers on Monday at Sheetal Niwas. This marks a change from previous occasions, as Ghimire had not been present during the oath-taking of the prime minister and three earlier ministers.

Education Minister Mahabir: Need no security, rejects Quarter and special privileges

Mahabir Pun, founder of the National Innovation Center, has formally assumed office as Minister for Education, Science, and Technology. He was appointed by the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, in response to nationwide protests and the demands of youth.

Second cabinet expansion: Priority order of Ministers announced

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expanded her Cabinet for the second time. Appointed as head of the interim government on Bhadra 27, she administered the oath of office to four ministers on Monday.

Minister Ghising inspects Araniko Highway blocked for two months

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising inspected the Bahrabise–Tatopani section of the Araniko Highway, which has remained blocked for the past two months due to landslides. The road closure has stranded more than a thousand containers arriving from China. With the festive season of Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath approaching, there is little likelihood of the goods reaching Nepal on time.

First decision by Minister Kharel: Free Wi-Fi in all provincial capitals and major cities within five months

Newly appointed Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has announced his first major decision: to provide free Wi-Fi in all seven provincial capitals and major cities within the next five months. After assuming office at Singha Durbar on Monday, Minister Kharel, in consultation with the communication secretary, decided to expand free Wi-Fi services across key urban areas.

Oli meets key UML leaders as he refuses to relinquish power

After being forced to resign as Prime Minister following the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9, CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli resurfaced in Gundu, Bhaktapur, on September 18, following a ten-day stay away from public view. Having left Baluwatar via a Nepal Army helicopter for Shivapuri in the immediate aftermath of the Gen-Z protests, Oli now continues his political engagement from Gundu, adjacent to Politburo member Mahesh Basnet’s neighborhood.

Education Ministry relocated to Keshar Mahal

The Ministry of Education building inside Singha Durbar has been rendered unusable after protesters set it on fire on the second day of the Gen-Z movement, on September 9. In the aftermath, the ministry has been temporarily relocated to Keshar Mahal in Lainchaur, from where services are currently being provided. Officials confirmed that the newly appointed Education, Science and Technology Minister will assume office at this temporary location on Monday.

Mahabir Pun assumes office as Education Minister

Mahabir Pun has assumed office as Minister for Education, Science, and Technology. Shortly after taking the oath of office and secrecy at the Office of the President today, he reached the ministry at Keshar Mahal and formally took charge. Upon assuming office, Minister Pun signed a decision to form four advisory committees related to science and technology. According to the ministry, these committees will provide guidance on space technology, nuclear technology, biotechnology, and information technology including artificial intelligence.

Agriculture Minister Pariyar pledges to end fertilizer shortages

Dr. Madan Pariyar has assumed office as the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development. After taking the oath of office and secrecy at the Office of the President in Sheetal Niwas, Minister Pariyar formally took charge of the ministry on Monday.

Supreme Court to hear habeas corpus petitions during Dashain

The Supreme Court will remain open from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm to hear writ petitions for habeas corpus during the Dashain holiday, the court administration announced. However, the court clarified that hearings will not be held on Ghatasthapana, Bijaya Dashami, Kojagrat Purnima, or Saturdays during the festive period.

Kathmandu sees nearly 190,000 travelers leave city ahead of Dashain festivities

In the past five days, 189,218 travelers have left the federal capital, Kathmandu, to celebrate Dashain across the country. According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, 29,360 public transport vehicles carried these passengers from September 17 to 21. Deputy Superintendent of Police Lokendra Singh Guru said that many travelers, who had come to the valley for study, business, or employment, began returning to their hometowns for the festival. Major exit points included Thankot, Sanga, Dakshinkali, and Balaju.

Multiple highways blocked across Nepal as landslides disrupt traffic

Floods and landslides have completely blocked six national highways and partially disrupted traffic on 169 road sections across the country, according to the Department of Roads. The department attributed the disruptions to road erosion caused by floodingand landslides in several areas. Prabhat Kumar Jha, spokesperson for the department, said repair work is underway on the Arniko Highway (Kathmandu–Dhulikhel–Dolalghat–Khadichaur–Kodari) to restore traffic by the evening.

RSP calls Central Committee meeting to discuss political strategy and upcoming election

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has called a meeting of its Central Committee for Tuesday morning at 8 AM at the party’s central office in Banasthali, party spokesperson Manish Jha informed on Sunday. According to Jha, seven key agenda items have been finalized for the session. The meeting will deliberate on the current political situation, reports from provincial gatherings, and feedback from central members in light of the changing political context.

APF under scrutiny amid allegations of officer involvement in smuggling

The Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal is increasingly alarmed as smuggling activities surge along the Indian border, stretching from Jhapa through Morang, Sunsari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Rupandehi, Banke, and further to Kailali and Kanchanpur. The APF’s concerns have grown as reports suggest both junior and senior officers stationed at border posts may be involved in these illegal activities. Allegations include officers misappropriating seized goods, undermining official accountability.

Melamchi water supply to reach Kathmandu only in final week of Ashwin

The long-awaited Melamchi water supply will reach the Kathmandu Valley only in the final week of Ashwin this year, according to officials. Heavy rainfall has kept the water flow in Melamchi River high, preventing distribution before Dashain, said Jagnnath Das, Executive Director of the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee.

Gold prices reach Rs 217,800 per tola

Gold prices in Nepal have reached an all-time high. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, gold is being traded at Rs 217,800 per tola, up Rs 700 from Sunday’s price of Rs 217,100 per tola.

Probe begins into burnt cash allegedly found at homes of Deuba and Khadka

The Department of Money Laundering Investigation has launched a probe into burnt currency notes allegedly found at the homes of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and outgoing Energy Minister and Nepali Congress leader Deepak Khadka. The investigation follows the circulation of videos on social media that claimed large amounts of cash were burned when the residences of Deuba and Khadka were set on fire on September 9 during the Gen-Z movement.
