Suhang Nembang accepts share of responsibility, asks leaders to apologize to people

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML youth leader Suhang Nembang has called for restraint in the aftermath of the Gen-Z uprising on September 8 and 9, expressing concern over the prevailing atmosphere of anger and retaliation.

Speaking candidly, the former lawmaker from Ilam stressed that the emotions of Gen-Z protesters must be respected, adding that blaming them would be like rebuking one’s own children.

“I appeal once again to seniors and young comrades alike, let us abandon passion, provocation, and revenge,” he said.

Nembang, son of the late UML Vice Chair Subas Nembang, went further by acknowledging his own share of responsibility in the circumstances that led to the revolt.

“Perhaps I too had some role in creating this situation. I do not know how much, but if I did, I sincerely apologize for my shortcomings and failures,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of self-criticism and accountability in leadership. “Mistakes always originate from those in leadership. It is our greatness to admit them, apologize to the people, and commit to rectification,” he said.

Arguing that the Gen-Z generation is part of Nepal’s own family, Nembang urged politicians to approach them with understanding rather than hostility. “The Gen-Zs took to the streets for their existence and rights. To level inflammatory accusations against them is like scolding our own children. Those who scold their own children cannot be considered responsible guardians,” he said.
