KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has reappeared publicly after 10 days.
Following the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9, Oli had left the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar aboard an army helicopter, reportedly heading towards Shivapuri. On Thursday, he descended to Gundu, Bhaktapur.
UML deputy general secretary Pradeep Gyawali told Khabarhub that arrangements have been made for Oli’s temporary stay in Gundu. “The chair has arrived in Gundu, where accommodation has been managed for him,” Gyawali said.
Oli was welcomed there by UML leaders and cadres. His residence has been arranged near the house of UML politburo member Mahesh Basnet.
He is expected to operate actively from Gundu and is likely to appear at the Constitution Day program at the party’s central office in Chyasal on Friday.
Earlier, Basnet had announced that Oli would be welcomed in Kathmandu with tens of thousands of cadres.
During the Gen-Z protests, Oli’s ancestral home in Tehrathum, his residence in Damak, Jhapa, and his house in Balkot, Bhaktapur, were all torched. As a result, he has now been settled in Gundu.
