POKHARA: Pokhara Metropolitan City will restart public services from Wednesday by setting up alternative arrangements, after most of its office buildings were left damaged in the recent Gen-Z protests.
Spokesperson Moti Timilsina said the city had initially planned to resume services today, but the government’s nationwide public holiday to mourn those killed in the unrest pushed the date back by a day.
The protests caused heavy destruction to municipal infrastructure, including the main administrative building and dozens of ward offices. Of the metropolis’ 33 wards, 20 were completely destroyed, seven sustained partial damage, and only six remain intact, according to Timilsina.
To ensure continuity, the city is arranging temporary spaces for displaced ward offices. In some areas, officials have already begun providing essential services, such as distributing social security allowances and renewing identity cards, through door-to-door visits.
Despite the disruption, Timilsina stressed that the municipality’s priority is to keep essential services running for residents.
