Minister Ghising directs removal of burnt vehicles from Singha Durbar premises

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kul Man Ghising, has directed authorities to remove the vehicles torched during the recent Gen-Z protests from the Singha Durbar premises.

According to his secretariat, Minister Ghising said the burnt vehicles had made the government complex appear unsightly and stressed that they should be relocated and managed elsewhere without delay.

“We cannot allow the country’s central office to look like a junkyard. Inside, we will continue working, but the exterior must not be left disfigured. Let us restore it as soon as possible. The damaged vehicles scattered around have made the premises look ugly, they must be removed immediately to send a positive message,” Ghising said.

The minister also instructed officials to repaint the exteriors of government buildings that suffered only minor fire damage, promptly clear ministry and office compounds of burnt vehicles, and carry out an immediate assessment of losses.

He further announced that a campaign titled ‘Let’s Build Our Structures Ourselves’ will be launched to mobilize support from the government, as well as Nepalis at home and abroad, to fund the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Urban Development has already formed a taskforce to assess the extent of damage to structures under its jurisdiction.
