KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Water Supply has resumed regular operations after being temporarily disrupted due to the Gen-Z protests and associated arson.
Deputy Secretary Rambabu Puri confirmed that all activities at the ministry and its subordinate agencies are back to normal. “Operations were suspended from September 8 to September 12 due to the Gen-Z protests. With the situation now stabilizing, work has resumed today,” he said.
During the protests, 14 four-wheeled ministry vehicles were completely destroyed by fire, and six others suffered damage. Puri added that, overall, the ministry itself sustained minimal damage, and detailed assessments are ongoing.
While several buildings in Singha Durbar were affected by fire during the unrest, the Water Ministry was largely spared, allowing staff to restart operations smoothly.
Engineer Kamalraj Shrestha, Director General of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management, confirmed that regular departmental work is ongoing. “The department did not suffer major damage. Some vehicles were affected, but since other infrastructure remained intact, operations have resumed,” he said.
