NC’s Ishwari Neupane resigns as Parliamentary Hearing Committee chair

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Ishwari Neupane has resigned from her position as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee.

Her resignation comes after the party decided to appoint her as Chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.

In a letter submitted to Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire, Neupane informed of her decision to step down, citing her inability to continue in the role.

“I hereby inform you that due to special reasons, I am unable to remain as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee constituted under Rule 25 of the Joint Meeting and Joint Committee (Operation) Rules, 2023. Accordingly, I resign from the post with immediate effect,” her letter stated.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Nepali Congress office bearers’ meeting held at President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha had decided to appoint Neupane as Chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.

The position had been vacant since Congress lawmaker Ramhari Khatiwada resigned in protest after the committee’s unanimous provision on a cooling-off period in the Federal Civil Service Bill was later altered.
