KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has said it will investigate and take legal action against individuals deliberately attempting to undermine the organisation or act against the government by dragging the security agency into controversy.
In a statement, Nepal Police spokesperson Abinarayan Kafle said the organisation remained committed to maintaining public security, preserving peace and order, controlling crime, and protecting the lives and property of citizens.
“The Nepal Police wishes to inform all concerned that it will initiate necessary investigations and take legal action in accordance with prevailing laws against individuals deliberately spreading misleading information to damage the organisation’s reputation, professionalism and performance, or attempting to weaken the Nepal Police or act against the government by drawing the security agency into controversy,” the statement said.
The police also expressed serious concern over reports and commentary published by some media outlets claiming that pressure on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki to resign had intensified.
“Presenting unverified information as news and publishing speculative commentary can create confusion and negativity among the public, pose security risks, and undermine public trust, the organisation’s image and its integrity,” the statement said.
Nepal Police urged media outlets, social media users and other stakeholders to refrain from circulating unverified, misleading and speculative information.
The statement further said that Nepal Police remained committed to fulfilling its legal responsibilities and maintaining accountability to citizens in line with the government’s policy directives.
“Nepal Police is determined to discharge its constitutional and legal responsibilities without being distracted by misleading propaganda, unnecessary pressure or unlawful activities,” the statement said.
The police organisation also called on its personnel to remain united, maintain high morale and continue their duties without being influenced by misleading reports or self-serving commentary.
It urged the public to rely on verified, official and fact-based information, avoid unnecessarily sharing unconfirmed claims, and support the responsible dissemination of news.
