Gyanendra Shahi calls for national consensus on border disputes

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) spokesperson and chief whip Gyanendra Shahi has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to build a national consensus to resolve Nepal’s ongoing geopolitical challenges, particularly the boundary disputes in Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani.

In a message addressed to the Prime Minister via social media, Shahi stressed that all Nepalis must unite to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Our forefathers shed their blood and sweat to protect this nation. Today, seeing the country trapped in various whirlwinds is deeply concerning. The borders of Nepal, defended through struggles against the British, the Mughals, and Tibet, are a matter of pride for us,” Shahi wrote, recalling the historical significance of Nepal’s frontiers.

Expressing grave concern over recent agreements between China and India that included Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura without Nepal’s consent, Shahi said such deals have raised serious questions about Nepal’s territorial integrity.

“At this sensitive moment, the need for unity among all Nepalis has become even more urgent. No compromise can be acceptable when it comes to nationalism,” he said.

Shahi urged the Prime Minister to take immediate initiative to bring together all political parties, leaders of civil society, organizations, and the public at large to foster an environment of national consensus.

“Only through national unity and cooperation can we safeguard our sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are ready to move forward together as one nation,” Shahi said.
