Electricity reaches nearly 900 new households in Myagdi

MYAGDI: Around 900 households in Myagdi district have gained access to electricity from the central transmission line over the past fiscal year.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Myagdi Distribution Center, 874 new consumers were connected to the grid during fiscal year 2025/25.

Center Chief Satyanarayan Gami stated that electrification has been successfully completed in Patle, Lupsipar, and Ghyanglepani of Malika Rural Municipality-3; Chiuribot of Ward No. 4; and Bul and Malampar of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality.

Electrification work is also nearing completion in several areas, including Ward No. 2 of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality; Lulang, Lamsung, Khoriya, Mareni, and Malkawang of Ward No. 5; Mahabhir of Malika Rural Municipality-4; and Panthok and Jugja of Ward No. 5.

In these locations, installation of poles, wiring, and transformers has been completed, and the remaining task is for residents to install electricity meters.

Last year, electrification and system upgrades were also completed on the Ghodepani distribution line in Punhill, a major tourist destination in Annapurna Rural Municipality-6.

The electricity supply to Mangala, Malika, and Dhawalagiri Rural Municipalities began through the 132 kV Milanchowk–Ratodhunga transmission line and the Ratodhunga substation.

Rajaram Subedi, Ward Chair of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-6, said that residents who previously relied on solar panels, kerosene lamps, oil lamps, and firewood for lighting are now relieved and excited about the availability of electricity.

He added that the change has made it easier for students to study, for families to manage household work, and for local businesses to operate.

Prakash Jha, the Information Officer of the Distribution Center, stated that the total number of electricity consumers in the Myagdi Distribution Center has now reached 23,869, including those added this fiscal year.

Electricity is also being distributed to areas in Jaljala Rural Municipality of neighboring Parbat district—including Mallaj and Baribeni—through the Milanchowk substation under the Myagdi Distribution Center.

To further expand electrification, the NEA has allocated a budget of Rs 220 million since FY 2023/24, aiming to extend the central transmission line to 2,183 households in 14 locations across Myagdi.

In the last fiscal year alone, the Myagdi Distribution Center supplied 17,395,797.71 units of electricity and collected Rs 203,363,381 in revenue. However, the NEA also disconnected service to 145 customers for non-payment, recovering arrears of Rs 1,345,407.

According to Distribution Center Accounting Chief Shyam Rana, customers who fail to pay their bills within 60 days will face disconnection, and those delaying payments for over six months will be blacklisted.

So far, Rs 77,000 has been recovered from one blacklisted individual, while Rs 278,904 remains outstanding from 11 others.
