RAUTAHAT: Former Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Mohammad Aftab Alam has been arrested from his residence on Sunday morning.
He was arrested over a connection to a bombing on April 9, 2008.
Rautahat Police said he will be handed over to Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for further action.
The ex-minister is accused of burning 23 of his cadres, including 21 Indian nationals, to death in a brick kiln in Rautahat. The cadres were reportedly making a bomb following Alam’s order and were injured when the bomb accidentally went off. Seven persons were killed in the bombing.
Sources at Nepal Police Headquarters told Khabarhub that Alam was arrested after it was found that he was involved in the incident.
“A special team from Nepal Police Headquarters was deployed to investigate the incident,” said the source, “He was arrested after proofs of his involvement were found.”
Police said they are yet to decide on whether to take him to Kathmandu or keep him at the custody of District Police Office, Rautahat.
