KATHMANDU: Roberto Suárez Santos, Secretary-General of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE), is arriving in Kathmandu today for a three-day official visit to Nepal from July 24 to 26.
Santos is visiting Nepal at the invitation of Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). This will be his first visit to the country.
The invitation was extended during a meeting between Dhakal and Santos earlier this year at the International Labour Conference in Geneva.
Founded in 1920 and headquartered in Geneva, the IOE is the world’s largest network of private sector employers. It represents more than 150 employer organizations across over 140 countries. FNCCI is a member of the IOE.
During his stay in Nepal, Santos will hold discussions with the FNCCI leadership and also meet senior government officials.
FNCCI President Dhakal expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen ties between FNCCI and IOE and help deepen policy-level cooperation.
Discussions are expected to include Nepal’s upcoming graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category in 2026, its implications for international trade, and strategies to enhance the competitiveness of Nepal’s private sector.
