Nepali carpets begin export to third countries via Birgunj Dry Port



PARSA: In a significant boost to Nepal’s manufacturing and export sector, Prestige Carpet Industries, based in the Bara-Parsa Industrial Corridor, has begun exporting its carpets to third countries beyond India.

The company recently dispatched 30,000 square meters of carpet—worth approximately Rs 10 million—to markets including the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, and the United States, through the Birgunj dry port.

Previously limited to exports within India, the company’s successful foray into new international markets marks a major milestone. Aman Shah, United Director of Prestige Carpet Industries, said the achievement comes after sustained effort and planning, and opens new doors for Nepal’s carpet industry on the global stage.

Located in Jitpur-Simara Sub-metropolitan City-23, the industry currently employs 100 people and boasts an annual production capacity of 2 million square meters.

The carpets produced range in price from Rs 900 to Rs 4,000 per square meter. Operating for the past five years, the factory has a total investment of Rs 400 million.

Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Hari Gautam welcomed the development, saying it is encouraging to see industries import raw materials, manufacture high-quality products, and successfully export them to global markets.

The achievement is seen as a positive step towards enhancing Nepal’s industrial output and diversifying its export portfolio.
