Phaniraj released after pledging not to refer to Gyanendra Shah as ‘Shree 5’

KATHMANDU: Dr. Phaniraj Pathak, the secretary and aide to former King Gyanendra Shah, has been released into the custody of his family after signing a written pledge.

He had been taken into custody by police on Friday morning for issuing a public statement referring to the former king as ‘Shree 5 Maharajadhiraj’ and for related social media posts.

According to Kathmandu Police Range Spokesperson SP Apilraj Bohara, Dr. Pathak was released at 8:45 p.m. after signing a document in which he committed not to repeat the actions deemed inappropriate.

He was released to his family after pledging in writing that he would no longer refer to Gyanendra Shah as ‘Shree 5 Maharajadhiraj’, would remove related Facebook posts, refrain from posting about such matters in the future, and avoid using such titles in public statements, according to police.

Pathak had been consistently referring to the former monarch using titles not recognized by the Constitution of Nepal, both in public statements and on social media.
