KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli on Saturday hailed late leader Madan Bhandari as the ideological compass that continues to guide Nepal’s political journey, stating that the country is moving forward with Bhandari’s vision at its core.
Addressing a national symposium titled Three Decades of People’s Multiparty Democracy held at the Rastriya Sabha Griha on the occasion of Bhandari’s 74th birth anniversary, PM Oli said Bhandari made an irreplaceable contribution to Nepal’s political transformation.
He credited Bhandari for introducing fresh ideological direction to Nepal’s leftist movement during a period of global skepticism toward socialism.
“At a time when there was deep doubt surrounding socialist and leftist movements worldwide, Madan Bhandari helped steer the UML and Nepal onto a new political path,” Oli said.
He added that Bhandari’s idea of Janata ko Bahudaliya Janabad (People’s Multiparty Democracy) highlighted ideological clarity while adapting tactics and strategies to the changing political landscape — a vision that Oli argued still holds relevance today.
“Madan Bhandari showed that we must protect our principles while being tactically wise and responsive to the times. That is how a nation must move forward, and how the leftist and socialist movements globally should evolve,” Oli said.
