KATHMANDU: Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, has emphasized the need to develop skilled manpower capable of utilizing technology to enhance employment opportunities.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony between the Local Development Training Institute, the Foreign Employment Board, and Helvetas Nepal, held at the Ministry today, Minister Bhandari stressed the importance of equipping manpower with the knowledge, skills, and technological competence required in today’s evolving global environment.
Highlighting the need for research in the labor sector, he shared that preparations are underway to launch a ‘Diploma in Labor Studies’ course in collaboration with universities.
He further stated that Employment Service Centers at the local level are actively disseminating information to ensure the public can access all services provided by the Ministry in an integrated manner. He noted that a lack of awareness is one of the main reasons employment opportunities are not being fully utilized.
Minister Bhandari acknowledged the vital role of the Swiss government and Swiss Contact in helping make the labor and migration sectors more inclusive. He expressed optimism that Nepal’s first National Immigration Policy is nearing completion and will soon be endorsed by the Council of Ministers.
On the occasion, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Local Development Training Institute, the Foreign Employment Board, and Helvetas Nepal for capacity development in the areas of labor, employment, and migration.
Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Krishnahari Pushkar, expressed confidence that the MoU would aid in managing training and skills development, identifying needs, and improving access to training and employment opportunities.
He added that the three organizations would support, collaborate with, and complement each other to elevate labor migration management in Nepal.
