Three major parties reach agreement to resume house proceedings

KATHMANDU: The obstruction in the House of Representatives that had persisted since June 3 will be lifted following a two-point agreement reached among Nepal’s three major political parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Centre).

The chief whips of the three parties—Shyam Kumar Ghimire (Nepali Congress), Mahesh Kumar Bartaula (CPN-UML), and Hit Raj Pandey (Maoist Centre)—signed the agreement, paving the way for the resumption of regular parliamentary proceedings.

According to the agreement:

  1. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) is already conducting an investigation regarding issues related to visit visas and immigration. The government will extend full cooperation to the CIAA as requested to ensure a conclusive investigation.

  2. The Nepal Government has committed to conducting a detailed study and investigation into long-standing problems related to immigration and visit visas. Based on this, it will pursue necessary policy, legal, and structural reforms to resolve the issues effectively.
