KATHMANDU: A section of the East-West Highway in Dumkibas, located in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), has been blocked after a flood swept away a temporary road diversion early Thursday morning.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhu Nepal from the District Police Office, the diversion was washed out due to heavy flooding in the area, completely halting traffic on the major highway.
DSP Nepal said that continuous water flow has made it impossible to take immediate steps to restore the route for vehicle movement.
With the main highway impassable, smaller and passenger vehicles are now being rerouted via the Honsi Gate through Sardi as a temporary alternative, authorities said.
Meanwhile, Shiva Khanal, Information Officer at the Butwal–Narayanghat Road Expansion Project, confirmed that the concrete casting of the new bridge at the affected site has already been completed.
The project aims to open the new bridge for public use by the second week of Asar (late June), which is expected to restore normal traffic flow on the highway.
The disruption has caused inconvenience for travelers and raised concerns about the vulnerability of road infrastructure to monsoon-related disasters.
