KATHMANDU: A cultural and tourism promotion event celebrating Nepal-China ties was held in Guilin on Saturday night, featuring vibrant musical performances and an award ceremony aimed at strengthening bilateral relations through art and culture.
The event, titled the Third SMS Nepal-China Cultural Preservation and Tourism Promotion Honors and Awards 2081, was organized by SMS Music and Entertainment, in collaboration with Changdongxi Guilin Estate Management and Guilin Elite Education Consulting.
Artists from both Nepal and China performed at the program. Representing Nepal, renowned singers Devika Bandana, Kamal Khatri, and the National Dynamic Art Group delivered special musical acts, while Chinese performers presented traditional dances and songs.
Chair of SMS Music and Entertainment Satyakala Tamang Lama described the event as a cultural bridge that promotes friendship, tourism, and mutual appreciation. “This platform is helping us share Nepal’s identity and voice internationally,” she said.
Asim Rai, Chair of Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu, highlighted the deep-rooted historical, religious, and cultural ties between Nepal and China. “Our friendship is growing stronger and more meaningful—from ancient Buddhist monasteries to today’s infrastructure and tourism collaboration,” he said.
Chief Guest Blang Xianfeng, Secretary of the Guilin United Front Work Department, emphasized the importance of people-to-people connections fostered through such events.
Other notable attendees included Lin Bin, President of the Guilin Cultural Volunteer Association; Zhang Gaolian, Deputy Director of the Guilin United Front Work Department; Yang Yunwu, Vice President of the Guilin City Glory Cause Promotion Association; Chen Hongxian, President of Guilin Asset Management; and Mo Guangfu, Captain of the Lijiang Rescue Center.
Mountaineer Midna Dembe Sherpa also addressed the gathering, sharing his experiences of climbing 33 peaks above 8,000 meters and advocating for tourism promotion through mountaineering.
At the event, Devika Bandana received the Emerging Singer Award, while Kamal Khatri was honored with the Best Singer Award.
Managing Director of SMS Music and Entertainment, Thupten Gyalbo Moktan, expressed hope that such cultural initiatives would deepen understanding and strengthen ties between the two nations. “We are showcasing Nepal’s musical heritage and cultural richness on an international platform,” he said.
