KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has said that the movement to reinstate the monarchy and declare Nepal a Hindu nation, set to begin on Jestha 15 (May 29), will be peaceful and disciplined.
He emphasized that they will not allow any form of violence, nor will they give the government an excuse to suppress the movement by provoking conflict.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting of the Joint People’s Movement Committee and its constituent parties, Lingden urged national and international human rights commissions to closely monitor the upcoming demonstrations.
“We will not allow this government to either suppress us or provoke violence. Our struggle will be based on civil disobedience and Satyagraha,” he said. “This time, we are determined to see it through to the end.”
Citing historical examples, Lingden added, “The 190-year-long British rule in our neighboring country ended through Satyagraha. We will also end this republic the same way.”
He referred to a recent statement by the Prime Minister in Parliament, saying, “The Prime Minister said he’s too old to run or escape. He may not be able to flee, but if there’s no compromise, we should at least allow him to leave by helicopter. We will make that facility available. That’s how we will move forward — with determination to complete this movement and conclude it once and for all.”
Lingden also called on all participants to remain sincere and committed to making the movement a success and to conclude it with dignity and purpose.
