Govt ready to address teachers’ legitimate demands, urges end to protests

KATHMANDU: The government has expressed its readiness to address the legitimate demands of protesting teachers.

Announcing the Cabinet decisions at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, government spokesperson and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Prithvi Subba Gurung urged teachers to return to educational activities, emphasizing that prolonged agitation could jeopardize students’ futures.

Gurung stated that while the government has consistently appealed to the teachers to end their protests, there has been a lack of cooperation from their side.

He also informed that the process of appointing a new governor will move forward once Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba returns from abroad.

Regarding the resignation of Education Minister Bidya Bhattarai, Gurung said the government has not received official confirmation.

Additionally, Gurung announced that a high-level Governance Reform Commission will be formed under the leadership of the Prime Minister to enhance administrative efficiency.

The Cabinet also decided to provide relief of Rs 1 million each to the families of the two individuals who died during the Tinkune incident on March 28.

Furthermore, it has approved amendments to the organizational structure and staffing of the Supreme Court and its subordinate bodies.

Other decisions include the endorsement of the Foreign Aid Mobilization Policy and the approval of the Public Procurement (Fourteenth Amendment) Regulations 2082.
