British national found dead in Kailali

KAILALI: A foreign national has been found dead in Bardagoriya Rural Municipality-4, Nomaboji, in Kailali district, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Stephen Gor, a 65-year-old British citizen, who had come to Nepal on a tourist visa. He had been staying at the house of a local resident, Man Bahadur Malla, since October 2024 last year.

According to DSP Kabindra Singh Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kailali, Gore was found dead in his room on Thursday night at around 9:30 pm. His room was found locked from the inside with a padlock, raising suspicions about the cause of death.

A woman named Chitra Kumari, of Nepali origin from Tamil Nadu, India, had also been living nearby and was reportedly associated with Gor and Malla’s family. Police said when locals tried to reach her and she did not respond, they broke open her door and found her in a sleeping position. However, her condition has not been specified in the report.

DSP Bohara stated that Gor and Chitra Kumari were known to be friends of Bam’s father and had been residing in separate houses in the same locality since their arrival in Nepal. The police have not confirmed any foul play but said an investigation is ongoing.

The body has been taken for post-mortem examination, and officials said the process of repatriating the body to the United Kingdom will follow after completing legal and procedural formalities.

Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
