RPP to protest around restricted area on April 20
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chair Rajendra Lingden has announced that the party will stage a protest in a restricted area on April 20.
The announcement came after a meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee held on Thursday.
Chairman Lingden expressed concerns over what he described as the government’s restriction on civil rights, which he believes prompted the party to take action.
RSP central committee meeting discusses four key agendas including Rabi’s jail term and Sumana’s resignation
The Central Committee meeting of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is currently underway at the party’s central office in Banasthali.
Acting spokesperson Manish Jha informed that the meeting, which began at 3 PM under acting chair DP Aryal, is focused on four main agendas.
The meeting is reviewing recent political developments in the country, future party plans, previous meeting decisions, progress on the party’s blueprint task force, and brief reports from committee members, according to Jha.
RSP postpones first General Convention to February following Rabi Lamichhane’s arrest
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has postponed its first General Convention to the third week of February (Fagun), 2082 BS, following the arrest of party chair Rabi Lamichhane in a cooperative fraud case.
The decision was made during Thursday’s central committee meeting held at the party headquarters in Banasthali, chaired by acting party president DP Aryal.
Previously scheduled for Baisakh, the convention has now been rescheduled to February 19–21 (Fagun 7–9) in Chitwan.
RSP appoints provincial in-charges ahead of General Convention
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has appointed in-charges for all seven provinces as part of its preparations for the party’s first General Convention, scheduled for February 2026.
The decision was made unanimously during a central committee meeting held at the party headquarters in Banasthali, according to acting spokesperson Manish Jha.
The newly appointed provincial in-charges are: Santosh Pariyar for Koshi Province, Manish Jha for Madhesh Province, Lima Adhikari for Bagmati Province, Shishir Khanal for Gandaki Province, Bipin Kumar Acharya for Lumbini Province, Ganesh Parajuli for Karnali Province and Hari Dhakal for Sudurpaschim Province.
Accounts committee finds corruption in Pokhara International Airport project
The Public Accounts Committee of the federal parliament has concluded that corruption occurred during the construction of Pokhara International Airport.
An on-site inspection led by Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chair and MP Rajendra Lingden found significant irregularities in the project.
The committee’s report, titled “On-site Study and Monitoring Report of Pokhara Regional International Airport, 2081,” states that corruption and irregularities were present from the very beginning of the contract process.
Thapathali corridor disrupted after sewage pipe burst
The Thapathali corridor in Kathmandu plunged into disarray after a sewer pipe burst on Thursday, flooding the road and creating havoc for commuters.
The broken pipe caused sewage to overflow onto the street, submerging vehicles and motorcycles. The road has become muddy and slippery, making it extremely difficult for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers to pass through.
Pedestrians have also been affected, struggling to navigate the flooded and unsanitary conditions. The situation has added to the daily commuting woes in one of the capital’s busiest corridors.
Six DIGs recommended for promotion to AIG
Six Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Nepal Police have been recommended for promotion to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG).
The recommendation was made during a meeting of the Promotion Committee held on Thursday under the leadership of the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The committee selected six DIGs from the district police group for promotion.
Those recommended for the top police position are Chandrakuber Khapung, Lalmani Acharya, Krishnahari Sharma Pokharel, Dan Bahadur Karki, Rajan Adhikari, and Manoj Kumar KC.
Govt to administer vitamin ‘A’ to 2.2 million children on Saturday
The government is launching a nationwide campaign to administer vitamin ‘A’ supplements to around 2.2 million children on Saturday and Sunday as part of the National Vitamin ‘A’ Program, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.
Children between the ages of 6 months and 59 months will receive vitamin ‘A’ capsules, while approximately 1.9 million children aged one to five years will also be given deworming medicine (Balvita) on the same day. Health officials will additionally conduct malnutrition screenings as part of the effort.
To ensure the success of the program, nearly 52,000 female community health volunteers and 15,000 health workers will be mobilized across the country.
High Court acquits Ram Bahadur Bomjon in rape case; other allegations remain
Ram Bahadur Bomjon, widely known as the self-proclaimed spiritual figure “Little Buddha,” has been acquitted by the High Court in Janakpur in a high-profile rape case involving a minor.
The decision overturns a previous ruling by the Sarlahi District Court that had sentenced Bamjan to 10 years in prison and ordered him to pay Rs. 500,000 in compensation.
According to Deputy Registrar Sushil Yadav, a bench of judges Narishwar Bhandari and Khemraj Bhatta dismissed the case citing insufficient evidence to support the claims against Bomjon.
NEPSE rises by 26.49 points, turnover surges to Rs 10.79 billion
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index witnessed an upward trend on the last trading day of the week, gaining 26.49 points to close at 2,722. Earlier in the day, the index had touched an intraday high of 2,740 points at around 1:45 pm.
Alongside the rise in the index, the market also recorded a notable increase in trading volume. A total turnover of Rs 10.79 billion was registered today, significantly higher than the previous day’s Rs 7.26 billion.
Almost all sectoral indices showed positive growth, with the exception of the trade sector, which saw a marginal decline of 0.15 percent.
Prachanda in Rupandehi as Maoist awareness campaign resumes
Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has arrived in Rupandehi as part of the ongoing Maoist Tarai-Madhes awareness campaign.
The campaign, which is centered along the East-West Postal Highway, aims to engage with the public and strengthen party presence in the region.
Dahal reached Bhairahawa via Nawalparasi on Wednesday and began his day today with a morning walk accompanied by party cadres. He is scheduled to attend several programs throughout Rupandehi during the day.
KMC begins restoration of historic Ikha Pukhu
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has commenced the reconstruction of the ancient Ikha Pukhu pond, aiming to restore it to its original form dating back to the Lichchhavi period.
The project is part of a broader initiative to revive Kathmandu’s traditional water systems and heritage sites.
Mayor Balen Shah made the announcement via Facebook on Thursday, stating that the restoration work has officially begun. The project, with an allocated budget of Rs 36.4 million, will cover a total area of around 7.5 ropanis, of which 6 ropanis will be dedicated to water retention.
NC leaders meet in Budhanilkantha amid growing discontent with govt
A high-level meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) leaders is currently underway in Budhanilkantha, as dissatisfaction within the party over the working style of the KP Sharma Oli-led coalition government reaches a boiling point.
The closed-door meeting, held at the residence of party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, began earlier today and has continued for over two hours. Present at the gathering are party office bearers, former office holders, and ministers representing the Nepali Congress in the government.
According to sources, the primary agenda of the meeting is to address the increasing internal frustration over the coalition’s functioning since the formation of the government on July 15. Party leaders are expected to develop a unified stance on how to respond to the Oli government’s perceived inefficiencies and controversial moves.
Birgunj returns to normalcy after communal tensions
Life in Birgunj is gradually returning to normal following communal tensions that erupted during the Hanuman Jayanti procession last Saturday.

Sumana Shrestha resigns from party post
Sumana Shrestha, Joint General Secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has stepped down from her party position, citing the principle of “one person, one responsibility.”
Though Shrestha submitted her resignation to RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane on March 30, the development only came to light today.
According to her secretariat, the decision followed a detailed discussion with Lamichhane, during which she emphasized the importance of separating party and parliamentary duties, particularly as the younger generation pushes for internal reforms.
Gold price hits all-time high at Rs 190,600 per tola
The price of gold in Nepal has once again hit a record high, reaching Rs 190,600 per tola on Thursday.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price surged by Rs 3,600 compared to the previous day.
On Wednesday, gold was being traded at Rs 187,000 per tola. The sharp increase reflects the ongoing bullish trend in the international market, which continues to influence local prices.
Nepal slip to 18th in T20I rankings after loss to Kuwait
Nepal has dropped one spot to 18th in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings following a disappointing 3-run loss to Kuwait in the final of the four-nation T20I series held in Hong Kong on April 13.
The defeat came against a lower-ranked Kuwait side, dashing Nepal’s hopes of clinching the title.
The loss also impacted individual rankings, with star all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee slipping from second to third place in the ICC T20I all-rounder rankings.
Kami Rita Sherpa set to climb Everest for record 31st time
Legendary Nepali mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa is once again preparing to scale Mount Everest — this time for a record-breaking 31st ascent.
The 55-year-old climber from Thame, Solukhumbu, already holds the world record for the most successful ascents of the world’s highest peak.
Kami Rita will be climbing with an Indian Army team this spring via Seven Summit Treks Pvt. Ltd. His last ascent — the 30th — was completed in 2024, further extending a record no other human has come close to matching in Everest’s 72-year climbing history.
