MYAGDI: A new bridge using ‘steel truss’ technology has been constructed over the Kosera River in Kuine-8 of Raghuganga Rural Municipality, Myagdi.

Dinesh Chhantyal, Chairman of the Consumers’ Committee, shared that the 32-meter-long bridge, built at a cost of Rs 3,324,167, will benefit 485 people from 100 households.

“The problem of having to cross the river at risk during floods has been resolved with the construction of this bridge,” he said. “Now, people can cross the river safely and confidently.”

The bridge was built through a partnership between Raghuganga Rural Municipality, the consumers, and the Suspension Bridge Sectoral Support Program. The NGO Milan Myagdi provided both social and technical support for the construction.

Raghuganga Rural Municipality contributed Rs 472,477, while the Suspension Bridge Sectoral Program provided Rs 3,089,273. The consumers contributed Rs 72,688 worth of labor for the bridge’s construction.

Dilu Bitalu, president of Milan Myagdi, an NGO focused on community mobilization for suspension bridge projects, mentioned that in the current fiscal year, two suspension bridges have been constructed in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality, and one each in Raghuganga and Beni municipalities.

In fiscal year 2080-81, six suspension bridges were built, and nine were completed in the fiscal year 2079-80. According to Milan Myagdi’s records, there are now 291 suspension bridges across the district.
