KATHMANDU: A group of 32 social leaders has urged the government to refrain from engaging in prohibition politics, arguing that such measures are unacceptable in a democratic system.

In a six-point appeal, prominent figures including Bhaskar Rajkarnikar, Kush Kumar Joshi, Bhavani Rana, Manisha Koirala, Tikaram Yatri, Yubaraj Ghimire, Jibram Bhandari, Swagat Nepal, and Sarbendra Khanal have expressed concern over recent state actions, warning of potential consequences if restrictions escalate.

The final point of the appeal states, “Prohibition is unacceptable in a democratic system. The current activities of the state and those under its leadership indicate a thirst for prohibition. We also want to alert and sensitize stakeholders across various institutions and sectors. If the situation gets out of control, the government itself will be responsible.”

Despite listing 32 names, the appeal remains unsigned.
