House of Representatives adjourned for tomorrow amid continued protests

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives’ meeting today was adjourned after repeated disruptions by opposition lawmakers.

The initial session was halted for a short period due to the disturbances, and after the second session also faced interruptions, Speaker Devraj Ghimire announced that the meeting would be reconvened on Thursday.

At the start of today’s session, opposition lawmakers raised their voices in protest against the government’s recent decision to dismiss Kulman Ghising from his position as the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

The lawmakers demanded that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli address the issue in the House, which led to the disruptions.

Speaker Ghimire made multiple appeals to the opposition party members, urging them to allow the House to function smoothly. However, the protest continued, prompting the adjournment. The House of Representatives is now scheduled to meet again at 11 am on Thursday to continue the proceedings.
