KATHMANDU: A member of the House of Representatives has called for the immediate dismissal of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka, accusing him of spreading misinformation about load shedding in Nepal and undermining the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

During the Zero Hour of Parliament on Thursday, MP Gyanu Basnet voiced strong concerns over Minister Khadka’s recent statements about the resurgence of load shedding, claiming that it was linked to Nepal’s neighboring countries.

Basnet’s remarks came in contrast to the position held by NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising, who has publicly stated that there is no load shedding and assured that it will not occur in the future.

“While Kulman Ghising, the Managing Director of the Electricity Authority, has confirmed there will be no load shedding, the Energy Minister is spreading fear and misinformation. This is part of a larger conspiracy to destabilize the NEA, which has been gradually becoming profitable,” said Basnet.

Basnet further accused Minister Khadka of attempting to feed brokers and middlemen and creating unnecessary panic among the public. He emphasized that such actions were harmful to the country’s power sector and undermined the credibility of institutions like the NEA.

MP Basnet’s demand for Khadka’s dismissal was formally presented to the Speaker of the House, with a request for immediate action to be taken against the minister for his controversial statements and actions.
