Explore medicinal herbs and natural beauty at Jhangajholi

DAMAULI: Looking for a peaceful getaway that combines natural beauty, family activities and a relaxing atmosphere? Jhangajholi, located in Shuklagandaki Municipality-6 of Tanahun district, could be an ideal destination for your next family outing.

With its lush greenery, children’s park, herbal garden, local cuisine and comfortable accommodation, Jhangajholi is gradually developing into an attractive destination for family tourism.

The destination offers visitors an opportunity to spend quality time with their families, enjoy nature and engage in recreational activities with children. It is located about 1.5 kilometres beyond Khairenitar Bazaar along the Prithvi Highway, on the way to Tinkhole Devi Temple. A blacktopped road and parking facilities make the destination easily accessible to visitors travelling in private vehicles.

A blend of education and entertainment

One of Jhangajholi’s main attractions is the Gauradevi Natural Herb Garden. Spread across approximately five ropanis of land, the garden features more than 200 species of medicinal herbs and plants.

Information boards displaying the names and descriptions of plants allow children and other visitors to learn about different species while exploring the garden. Animal sculptures, more than 50 varieties of fruit plants, a children’s park and abundant greenery add to its appeal.

The peaceful surroundings near the river also provide an ideal setting for families to relax, take photographs and enjoy time together.

Local delicacies and family gatherings

Visitors can enjoy local delicacies, including local chicken and kalij pheasant dishes. The opportunity to share meals, chat and spend quality time with family members and relatives adds to the overall experience, said Jhangajoli owner Ujwal Poudel.

The destination also offers campfire facilities and an event hall for birthdays, wedding anniversaries and other family occasions. Visitors wishing to stay overnight can choose from air-conditioned rooms priced between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,500 per night.

A destination for all generations

According to Poudel, owner of Jhangajoli Agro Tourism Pvt. Ltd., the destination brings together recreation, a natural environment and food services in one location, making it suitable for visitors of different age groups.

“People want to spend time with their families, entertain their children and enjoy nature. Jhangajholi offers an environment where everyone, from children to senior citizens, can find activities and experiences to enjoy. For those who cannot travel long distances, it is a good place to spend a day with their families or stay overnight,” he said.

Park owner Basuraj Dahal said the destination attracts more than 500 domestic tourists on holidays and around 200 visitors on other days.

The herbal garden and other physical infrastructure, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 15 million, have further enhanced the area’s appeal.

Promoting herbal conservation and research

The park was established in the name of Gauradevi Dahal, an 89-year-old resident of Jhangajoli in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-3, Sindhuli district.

Beyond tourism and recreation, the park aims to develop into a centre for educational activities and research, while promoting the conservation of medicinal herbs and other plant species.

With its combination of nature, learning opportunities, local food and family-friendly facilities, Jhangajholi offers visitors an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing getaway while learning about Nepal’s rich plant diversity.
