National Magar Unity Day celebrated (In photos)

KATHMANDU: The Magar community across the country has celebrated the 43rd National Magar Unity Day with various events today. In places with a significant Magar population, such as in Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta Purba), cultural processions and other programs were organized to mark the day with great enthusiasm.

On the occasion of Magar Establishment Day, the district Magar Associations, along with the municipal and village-level associations in all districts, as well as those abroad, organized various events to celebrate the day.

The day also plays an important role in preserving Magar culture, which has been gradually diminishing due to various reasons. It helps to promote traditional practices like Salaiyo, Jhyauare, Kauḍa, and other folk cultures, and provides information to the younger generation about the Magar language, customs, history, and traditions. That is why the Magar community celebrates this day every year on the 15th of Falgun.

During the Panchayat era, the first general assembly of the Nepal Langhali Family Association was held in Tanahu from 14th to 16th Falgun 2039, under police siege. In remembrance of that event, the 15th of Falgun is observed as the founding day of the association.

On this occasion, people from the Magar community gathered at Tundikhel in Kathmandu in traditional attire, exchanging greetings and celebrating the Magar Unity Day joyfully.
