Circular issued to provide residential doctors with government-level service benefits



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu University (KU) has sent a letter to provide residential doctors with service benefits equivalent to those of government doctors.

The Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences issued a circular to 10 private medical colleges affiliated with the university, instructing them to provide allowances equivalent to the eighth level of government health services.

On 25th Magh, during the 16th meeting of the Medical Education Commission, it was decided to provide allowances to doctors studying at private medical colleges equivalent to those received by government doctors.

Based on this, the commission sent a letter to Kathmandu University on 13th Falgun, directing them to implement the decision. Following this, the university issued instructions to provide the allowances.

Earlier, the Ministers of Education and Health had decided that the allowance should be between 20,000 to 35,000 rupees. In response to this decision, residential doctors across the country had protested. Subsequently, the commission’s chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed a commitment to providing allowances as per the demands of the students.

The commission had made a decision in a meeting to provide allowances equivalent to those of government medical officers.
