Literature is a change agent: Communications Minister Gurung



GANDAKI: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has asserted that literature is a means of change.

Inaugurating the 12th Nepal Literature Festival organized by Bookworm Foundation in Pokhara from today, Minister Gurung shared that literature is the strong medium of expression.

He said he was attracted towards revolution and changes after reading ‘Ghumne Mechmathi Andho Manchhe’, a poetry creation of Bhupi Sherchan.

Minister Gurung mentioned that the literature festival organized by Bookworm Foundation is a multi-dynamic programme as well as completely new and creative as compared to others, adding, “Discussion is held on various issues related to society, economy, culture and politics here. So such programmes contribute in social transformation.”

He pointed out the need of attracting the new generation to research and creativity and stressed on developing a reading culture in the country.

Such festivals would help promote touristic activities in Pokhara, added the Communications Minister.

Professor and Economist Mahendra P Lama delivered a talk in the inaugural session of the festival which will run for four days at Barahighat ground of Fewa Lake.

There would be participation of more than 200 litterateurs, politicians, writers, artists and journalists of Nepal and other countries in the festival where more than 51 discussion sessions, interactions, musical performance and other creative events are included.
