NEA begins repair work on broken water pipe in Babarmahal

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has begun repairing a damaged pipeline in the wholesale drinking water distribution system in Babarmahal, which burst on Wednesday during underground cable installation work.

The pipe broke while NEA was conducting horizontal drilling to lay electricity cables underground, causing severe water leakage that flooded the area, including government offices such as the Special Court.

Ashok Kumar Paudel, Chief Executive Officer of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), stated that repair work started last night. He explained that after the pipeline burst, water overflowed and submerged Babarmahal, prompting authorities to shut off the supply before beginning repairs.

“We have started the repair process and water distribution will resume once the work is completed,” Paudel said.

The flooding has caused disruptions in the area, affecting local offices and residents. Authorities are working to complete the repairs as quickly as possible to restore normal water supply.
