Opposition parties to reject government’s ordinance

KATHMANDU: Opposition parties in parliament, including the Maoist Center, have collectively decided to reject the ordinance introduced by the government.

A meeting held this morning (Thursday) at the Maoist Center’s parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar concluded with the decision to reject the ordinance.

The winter session of parliament is set to begin tomorrow (Friday).

Following the meeting, Maoist Center parliamentary party chief whip Hitraj Pandey stated that opposition parties will strongly raise the people’s concerns in the upcoming session.

He emphasized that the opposition has united in opposition to the government’s ordinance.

“The government’s move to introduce the ordinance just before the parliament session is procedurally wrong,” he said.

“This ordinance reduces the scope of the bill that was already discussed in the finance committee. We believe this is a mistake, and all opposition parties have agreed to reject the ordinance.”

The meeting was attended by Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Acting Chair DP Aryal, Unified Socialist Party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, RPP leader Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, Nepal Samajwadi Party Chairman Mahindra Yadav, Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC, and other leaders.
