KATHMANDU: The government and the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) have reached an agreement, prompting the association to withdraw all protest programs it had announced.
The agreement was reached between the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and the association on Monday.
Foreign employment entrepreneurs had launched a protest on the 22nd of last month, putting forward a 15-point list of demands. As part of their protest, they had announced plans to halt the deployment of Nepali workers to destination countries from August 17.
During a meeting held on Monday between Labour Minister Ramji Yadav and the association’s president and office-bearers, the government agreed to address the entrepreneurs’ concerns.
The meeting was informed that most of the 15 demands raised by the association were related to policy matters and had already been incorporated into the ongoing process of amending the Foreign Employment Act and Regulations.
The ministry and the association also agreed to make maximum efforts to complete the amendment process as soon as possible with the aim of making the foreign employment sector more transparent, safe and dignified.
The two sides also discussed arrangements for addressing other outstanding demands. Under the agreement, foreign employment entrepreneurs can approach the Department of Foreign Employment with the necessary evidence and documents regarding their concerns, after which the department will provide administrative facilitation. Issues that cannot be resolved by the department can subsequently be appealed to the ministry through the appropriate process.
Following the agreement, the Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association has committed to withdrawing all its pressure-based protest programs with immediate effect.
