RUPANDEHI: The detention hearing in the fraud case involving Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane has concluded.

The argument, which began on Thursday at the Rupandehi District Court, ended on Sunday afternoon. A verdict is expected shortly.

On Sunday, Lamichhane’s lawyers, including senior advocates Raman Shrestha, Pashupati Bhandari, Sushil Pant, and Narayan Kandel, presented their arguments. The court is set to issue its decision after the rebuttal from government prosecutors.

Lamichhane first appeared in court on Wednesday. Since then, he has been released on bail under the condition of regular attendance, as ordered by Judge Pralhad Kumar Yogi.

The case involves the misappropriation of Rs 861.8 million from the Suprem Cooperative, affecting 1,831 depositors. While the initial complaint against 28 individuals was filed on April, Lamichhane was later named in a supplementary complaint.

The police investigation revealed that Rs 142.9 million from the cooperative was funneled into Gorkha Media Network Pvt. Ltd., and Rs 20 million was issued as a loan in Lamichhane’s name, prompting his involvement in the case.
