RSP cadres accused of misconduct against former Chief Minister Rawal, secretariat demands investigation

KANCHANPUR: Former Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province and leader of the CPN-UML parliamentary party in the provincial assembly, Rajendra Singh Rawal, was reportedly mistreated by cadres of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The incident occurred on Saturday at Daiji Chowk along the East-West Highway in Kanchanpur while Rawal was traveling to Dhangadhi for official purposes. Rawal’s secretariat issued a press statement condemning the incident.

According to the statement, RSP cadres stopped Rawal’s vehicle, verbally abused the driver, attempted physical assault, and even tried to vandalize the vehicle, which the secretariat described as an affront to the rule of law.

“The Nepal Police, responsible for ensuring security, stood as silent spectators, displaying helplessness in the face of the unruly group,” the statement added.

The secretariat also raised concerns about the group sharing edited video clips on social media to exaggerate the incident and tarnish Rawal’s personal and social reputation. The statement expressed strong objection to such acts and stated that legal action would be pursued against those involved.

Rawal’s secretariat claimed the attack was premeditated and orchestrated by an unruly group, deliberately blocking the way and behaving inhumanely while he was traveling on official duty with authorization from the provincial assembly secretariat on a holiday.

The secretariat has demanded an investigation into the incident to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.
