NDRRMA warns of increased risk of forest fires due to rising temperatures

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has cautioned the public about an increased likelihood of forest fires this year due to rising temperatures and low winter rainfall.

“With the gradual increase in temperatures and insufficient winter rainfall, the risk of forest fires is expected to rise further across the country,” said Dr Dijan Bhattarai, spokesperson for NDRRMA.

The warning follows a significant forest fire that broke out in Khanikhola Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchok, which has since spread to other regions. Bhattarai said efforts are underway to control and extinguish the fire.

In a press release issued today, the NDRRMA called on stakeholders to stay prepared and take proactive measures to manage potential fire outbreaks. The authority emphasized the need for vigilance and prompt action to minimize the damage caused by forest fires.
