Fire in Mahabharat Community Forest spreads in Kavrepalanchok



KATHMANDU: A fire that broke out in the Mahabharat Community Forest in southern Kavrepalanchok has continued to spread, and authorities are working urgently to bring it under control.

The fire has been raging in the forest, located in Thamalekh Danda, Khanikhola Rural Municipality-1, since Tuesday afternoon.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Umesh Kumar Dhakal confirmed that a team consisting of Nepal Army personnel, police officers, and local residents was dispatched on Wednesday evening to coordinate fire control efforts.

CDO Dhakal assured that security forces have been instructed to monitor the affected areas and surrounding human settlements to prevent the fire from spreading further. If necessary, local residents will be evacuated to ensure their safety.

The fire reportedly started at around 2 pm on Tuesday in the edge area of the community forest. According to the Division Forest Office in Dhulikhel, the fire is still not under control, and the situation is being closely monitored. Forest Office Chief Krishna Bahadur Thapa informed that a team has been dispatched to manage the fire and mitigate its spread.

A joint meeting between district administration and security agencies is scheduled for today to discuss strategies for controlling the fire. CDO Dhakal indicated that additional personnel and necessary equipment will be mobilized in coordination with relevant authorities.

The fire is currently about three kilometers from the nearest human settlement, and no injuries to humans or animals have been reported thus far. Authorities continue to work on containment, hoping to prevent any further damage.
