InDrive rider arrested for sexual harassment of passenger in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 25-year-old Prabin Baral, a driver from Chitwan, for sexually harassing a female passenger on January 15.

The incident occurred after the bus she was traveling on broke down in Mugling Bazaar, Chitwan, on its way to Kathmandu.

Baral, who took the vehicle to a garage for repairs, allegedly harassed the woman after she booked a motorcycle through InDrive’s ‘City to City’ service.

The harassment began when Baral sent an inappropriate message to the woman via WhatsApp proposing sex and making repeated sexual advances.

Despite the woman’s attempts to dissuade him and warn him about reporting the incident, Baral continued his behavior.

The passenger then blocked his contact and reached out to both the police and InDrive’s office. However, InDrive was unable to provide the driver’s details but advised her to file a police report, which she did.

The police immediately launched an investigation, and Baral was arrested after the woman filed a formal complaint. During the investigation, it was revealed that Baral had previously taken advance payments for InDrive services but lost contact with the customers.

Baral has been remanded for five days by the Kathmandu District Court as the investigation continues.
