Production of fish, milk up in Madhes Province



KATHMANDU: The Madhes Province has produced 45,571 metric tonnes of fish in the fiscal year 2023/24.

According to a report by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the production of fish increased by 5.04 percent in the last fiscal year in the districts of the Madhes Province compared to the fiscal year 2022/23.

As per the report, Bara district produced the highest quantity of fish with 22.43 percent while Parsa district has the lowest contribution to fish production in the province with 7.99 percent.

However, the farmers have complained of limited marketing and pricing for fish.

“Import from India was high. Now, the local production is increasing. But, we lack technical expertise on fishery and fingerling,” Dinanath Sah, said a farmer from Pakahamainapur in Parsa.

Meanwhile, the NRB stated that the production of milk too has increased in the province. Production of milk increased to 654,123 litres in the fiscal year 2023/24.

Siraha district produced the highest quantity of milk while Saptari has the lowest contribution.
