KATHMANDU:Ashika Tamang, who recently gained attention on social media by branding herself as a social activist, has been arrested in Kathmandu.

The arrest was confirmed by SP Nawaraj Adhikari, the spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, who stated that Tamang was detained in connection with a case of indecent behavior. A few days ago, she had reportedly misbehaved with police officers stationed at the Pashupatinath Temple premises.

Based on an arrest warrant issued by the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, Tamang was taken into custody for investigation. The warrant stated that immediate action was necessary to prevent the destruction of evidence.

Despite the arrest, Tamang and her supporters initially resisted the police’s efforts, demanding the original arrest warrant. After some resistance, the police were able to detain her and take her to the Metropolitan Police Range Gaushala for further action.

Tamang has gained significant attention in recent weeks for her self-proclaimed role as a social reformer, though her behavior has now led to her legal troubles.

The police action follows her verbal altercation with officers at the Pashupatinath Temple, which prompted the authorities to take necessary legal measures under the National Criminal Code.
