Nepal Bar Association to stage symbolic lantern protest

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Bar Association and other legal professionals are set to stage a symbolic protest by lighting lanterns in broad daylight on Tuesday.

The demonstration will take place at 1 pm at the Bar premises, protesting against the functioning style of the Supreme Court administration.

The Bar said the protest has been organized in response to the alleged refusal to register writ petitions filed against government ordinances and decisions of the Constitutional Council.

It also accused the Supreme Court administration of disregarding an order issued on Monday by Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla.

According to the Bar, the refusal to register constitutionally significant writ petitions has obstructed judicial processes, prompting the decision to launch the protest.

A meeting of the Bar held on Monday concluded that the court administration had blocked access to justice by not registering important petitions, leading to the decision to begin protests from Tuesday.
