Half-yearly review of budget: 39 percent income, 35 percent expenditures

KATHMANDU: The half-yearly review of the budget indicates that 39 percent of the targeted income and 35 percent of the projected expenditures have been achieved.

According to the Comptroller General’s Office, the government expenditures reached Rs 667 billion 619 million, representing 35.89 percent of the annual target, as of the end of Push month (July 16 to January 13).

The government had set an annual income and expenditure target of Rs 1,860 billion 333 million for the current fiscal year (2081-82 / 2024-25).

Of the total allocation of Rs 1,140 billion 664.5 million for the fiscal year, spending amounted to Rs 452 billion, or 39.63 percent.

The capital expenditure stood at Rs 56 billion 935 million, or 16.16 percent, of the total capital expenditure allocation of Rs 352 billion 354 million.

Expenditures under the fiscal management heading amounted to Rs 158 billion 663.9 million, which is 43.2 percent of the total allocation of Rs 367 billion 284.5 million.

The government had set a target of collecting Rs 1,471 billion 629.5 million in revenue for the fiscal year, and by mid-year, Rs 574 billion 767.9 million had been collected, achieving 39.06 percent of the target.

In terms of taxation, Rs 489 billion 399.2 million, or 38.11 percent of the target, has been collected, while non-tax revenue collections reached Rs 70 billion 282 million, or 51.97 percent of the target.

Furthermore, the government set a target of receiving Rs 52 billion 326.5 million in foreign grants, and as of mid-January, Rs 7 billion 370.6 million has been received.
