Festivals strengthen cultural values, says Vice President

KATHMANDU: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has highlighted the role of festivals in preserving and promoting Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.

Extending his best wishes on the occasion of Tamu Lhosar, celebrated with enthusiasm by the Gurung community today, Vice President Yadav underscored the importance of such festivals in reinforcing cultural and spiritual values.

He said traditional practices like worshiping deities, gathering with loved ones, and exchanging greetings reflect the deep-rooted traditions of the Tamu/Gurung people.

“This festival fosters spiritual awakening and holy practices, further strengthening our religious and cultural foundations,” the Vice President said.

In his message, Yadav also conveyed greetings for Tolh Lhosar, observed tomorrow as the New Year by communities in mountainous regions, including Humla, Dolpa, Mugu, Manang, and Jumla.

He stressed that Nepal’s diverse festivals, which showcase indigenous customs and traditions, play a vital role in uniting communities.

“Our festivals are a testament to cultural diversity, and the time has come to link them to tourism to enhance their significance and reach,” Yadav added.

Tamu Lhosar and Tolh Lhosar are among the many festivals celebrated across Nepal, reflecting the nation’s vibrant cultural tapestry.
