KATHMANDU: National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal has expressed belief that cultural festivals of Nepal would further strengthen mutual harmony, social relation and national unity among the Nepali people.

In a message of best wishes on the occasion of Udhauli and Yomari Punhi festivals, Chair Dahal mentioned that national unity within diversity is the identity of us being Nepalese.

Wishing for the happiness, peace, prosperity and long-life to all Nepali brothers and sisters living home and abroad on the occasion of Udhauli festival of Kirant community and Yomari Punhi of Newar community, he shared that these festivals are the symbol of mutual harmony, social tolerance, cultural promotion and love for nature.

Kirant community celebrates Udhauli festival in a special manner by offering new-harvest paddy to God, asking permission to eat it and remembering their ancestors.

Similarly, Newar community celebrates Yomari Punhi by making delicious Yomari from the flour of new-harvest paddy.

“Constitution of Nepal has defined Nepal a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-lingual and multi-cultural country. It has guaranteed the rights of every citizen to celebrate festivals as per their devotion and community as the fundamental rights”, reads the message.
