KATHMANDU: The road near Kathmandu Metropolitan Office in Kamaladi, which had caved in months ago, has been fully reconstructed and is set to reopen on Thursday.
The road section, which stretches from Mahendra Statue at Durbar Marg to Krishna Pauroti Chowk in Kamaladi, collapsed on August 9, exposing the Tukucha River beneath.
The reconstruction, completed within three months, involved covering the exposed river and rebuilding the damaged culvert.
Heavy rainfall had caused an 11-meter-long section of the road to collapse entirely.
The affected area lies between Wards 1 and 28 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
Narayan Dutta Bhandari, the Division Chief of Kathmandu Road Division, confirmed that the construction was completed on schedule, and preparations to open the road for traffic on Thursday morning are underway.
The reconstruction project commenced on October 4, with the aim of completion by December 2.
The swift progress enabled the construction to be finalized by Wednesday, allowing vehicles to resume passage the following day.
