Nepali Congress registers amendment on Media Bill

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has on Sunday registered amendment proposals on the much-talked-about Media Bill tabled at the National Assembly (NC).
NC lawmakers Surendra Raj Pandey and Radheshyam Adhikari registered an amendment notice today seeking amendment of 29 different points in the Bill.

The bill tabled by Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Baskota was earlier registered in the NA on May 10.

The bill has proposed a fine of Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 million on journalists violating code of conduct.

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has also been demanding its withdrawal while condemning the Bill.

The government has, however, assured of making amendments to some of the provisions in the Bill.
