KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli arrived in Beijing on Monday for an official four-day visit.

Upon arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport, he was welcomed by Sun Weidong, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Chinese Communist Party.

The visit is expected to further strengthen Nepal-China relations.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit includes high-level meetings, bilateral agreements, and discussions on multilateral cooperation.

A key focus will be formalizing collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Two draft proposals have been prepared, one for immediate agreement and another for further discussions.

The visit is also likely to result in agreements on advancing various infrastructure projects.

China will support the construction of Madan Bhandari University and provide financial aid for other projects, including a sports complex in Jhapa-5, PM Oli’s constituency, and an assembly hall in Dadeldhura, the constituency of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

In addition, China has committed to providing a $20 million cash grant and economic and technical assistance worth 300 million RMB.

Both countries will introduce programs to promote language development and people-to-people connections to enhance cultural ties.

On Tuesday, PM Oli will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Zhao Leji, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.

On Wednesday, he will address an audience at Peking University. The Nepali delegation, comprising 39 government officials and 48 representatives from the private sector, will return to Kathmandu on December 5.
